About the ASC Group

Your Partner in Success

The ASC Group was founded by John White, a serial entrepreneur. John developed and sold a software company to General Electric; created and sold a package design and engineering firm to a Chinese manufacturer; and founded Mobilegs, a medical device company which he sold to a private equity group.


John developed a deep understanding of the factors impacting ASC’s through his work with McKesson, the initial distributor of Mobilegs. Through countless calls on hundreds of ASC’s, John developed strong relationships with physicians and came to understand the complex relationship between ASC’s, medical practices and medical real estate.


The physicians who built these practices have a unique set of assets and consequently a unique set of issues to consider as they plan for retirement in a rapidly changing healthcare delivery system.


Physicians are the entrepreneurs of medicine, innovating and collaborating, consistently focused on their patients. Our focus is to help older private practice physicians maximize the value of their assets when planning change-of-control transactions.

One option often overlooked when retiring,  is selling a to younger physicians. This could be the healthiest option as we all understand the importance of private practice owned by physicians to the delivery of healthcare in the United States. But, our experience is that there are fewer younger physicians looking for practice ownership, and the complexities of ownership are significant and growing.


Another viable option is to sell to a private equity firm.  There are many PE groups who bring significant resources and money to help you grow your practice.  Typically, they are looking for physician partners to help grow the practice—they only own their ventures for 4 to 7 years.  They buy practice that are healthy, with strong management and several physicians who aren’t going to leave after the sale, grow the EBITDA and exit the venture. 


If you are paired with the proper PE firm, you can get a good high price for your practice, but you can have a chance at additional future profits as the practice grows and the PE firm exits.
